The government’s decision to set up 100 new Sainik schools will provide female students with an opportunity to join the armed forces and contribute to national security, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Saturday.
Minister said at a virtual conference that the Center is committed to expanding the role of women in the armed forces and a series of steps have been taken to achieve this goal, including supporting the admission of women to Sainik schools and providing permanent commissions to female officers.
From the academic year 2022-23, 100 government and private schools in India will be affiliated with the Sainik School Society under the Ministry of Defence after the Indian government approved the affiliation in October.
According to Rajnath Singh, Sainik schools have contributed to the recruitment of more than 7000 officers to the armed forces so far, and are responsible for the training of officers like former Chief of the Army Staff General Deepak Kapoor (Ret.) and General Dalbir Singh Suhag (Ret.).
