Punjab police on Friday prevented a possible terrorist attack ahead of Republic Day by seizing RDX, a grenade launcher, two compatible grenades, nine electrical detonators, and two sets of timer devices for IEDs from Gurdaspur.
The police have also arrested a person. According to Mohinish Chawla, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for the Border Range, Gurdaspur received a 40 mm Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) with two 40 mm compatible grenades, 3.79 kg of RDX, nine electrical detonators, and two sets of timing devices for IEDs on Friday.
In accordance with information, UBGL is a short-range grenade launching area weapon with an effectiveness range of 150 meters and could be hazardous to security for VVIPs as well.
Sukhpreet Singh alias Sukh Ghuman, Tharanjot alias Thanna, and Sukhmeetpal Singh alias Sukh Bikhariwal, have also been booked by Punjab police as co-conspirators of Malkeet. They all belonged to Gurdaspur. Besides them, are Pak-based International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF) chief Lakhbir Singh Rhode and fugitive gangster Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dalla.
