Thirty-four border outposts in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh along the Line of Actual (LAC) have received a crucial clearance from an environment committee. These include some in areas that lately witnessed border hostilities between Indian and Chinese troops.
The approval has been granted amid reports of repeated incursion by Chinese personnel in border areas. Many of 24 border outposts of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), which were cleared at the September 24 meeting of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL), are in areas where Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed last year.
Permissions have also been granted for the construction of the Marshimikla-Kiu La road and the Mahay-Debring road in the vicinity projects that were sent for clearance since January 2021.
Some of the outposts will come up at Phuphu, Kangri, Lama, Kapuda, Amaha, Balchida, and Tapola near Changthang wildlife sanctuary, around 4-11 Km from the international border.
The NBWL has also granted clearance to the Nechipu Tunnel in Arunachal to connect the already existing B.C.T (Balipara-Charidwar-Tawang) road. The tunnel is expected to assist the Indian army bypass regions with dense fog near the border.
