The 6th edition of the biennial training exercise “EX SHAKTI 2021”, a joint military exercise of India and France is being conducted from November 15 to 26 in Frejus, France.
The Indian Army will be represented by a platoon strength of Gorkha Rifles Infantry Battalion while the French Army will be represented by troops of 21st Marine Infantry Regiment of 6th Light Armoured Brigade.
The primary objective of Ex-Shakti is to enhance military cooperation and interoperability between the two-armed forces in semi-urban terrain under the United Nations Mandate.
The last edition of Ex-Shakti was launched at the Foreign Training Node in Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, Rajasthan from October 31 to November 13, 2019, in which Counter-Terrorism operations in semi-desert terrain were practiced and validated.
India and France conduct three biennial military training drills, namely, Exercise GARUDA with the Indian Air Force, Exercise VARUNA with the Indian Navy, and Exercise SHAKTI with the Indian Army.
