In and around Kyiv, residents were advised to get into bomb shelters as quickly as possible following an air alert announced on Wednesday. “Kyiv region – air alert. Threat of a missile attack. Everyone immediately to shelters,” regional administration head Oleksiy Kuleba said on Telegram.
Russian troops have now advanced deep along Ukraine’s coastline, almost two weeks after the invasion began. A humanitarian crisis is unfolding in the encircled city of Mariupol as Russian soldiers surround the city for days. While non-stop fighting has engulfed major Ukrainian cities, the Russian military has laid siege to them and attempts to create corridors for civilians to safely escape have failed.
The fighting in nearly two weeks has left thousands of people dead across the country, including civilians and soldiers. Russian forces have seen their advances stopped in certain areas, including Kyiv, by resistances from Ukrainians.
