AMCA program to be produced by public-private partnership

Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), a fifth-generation aircraft program in India is expected to be manufactured by an SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) consisting of HAL and DRDO, as well as some major private industry partners for which a new company is expected to be announced by the end of 2022.

HAL will have the largest chunk of share in the new consortium that will come up soon for which dialogues have been initiated with the private partners like Tata Defence, Larsen & Toubro, VEM Technologies, and Kalyani group.

This program will get a new production plant in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. ADA has estimated the cost of the entire program to be Rs 15000 crore. The roll out of the prototype is slated in the year 2025-26.

A proposal for AMCA approval to the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is in the process of being sent to ADA for consideration, which upon approval will make this program official.
