Another faceoff took place in Arunachal with Chinese Army

Another faceoff involving 200 PLA soldiers with the Indian Army took place in the sensitive Tawang area of Arunachal Pradesh last week, following the persistent pressure by the Chinese side on the borders in the Central and Eastern sectors.

The confrontation took place after Chinese soldiers crossed the LAC and tried to target Indian defences, sources said. “There has been no damage to defences. This routine business whenever patrols meet wherever there are differing perceptions on the border. Both sides patrol. Just that in this instance, the patrols happened to meet,” sources said.

More than two dozen incidents of transgression have occurred in the middle sector, that comprises of Himachal and Uttarakhand facing Tibet, this year and there has been a marked change in the pattern and violation of Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs), with a larger number of PLA troops intruding into disputed areas as well as attempts to damage infrastructure.

The incident at Barahoti, Uttarakhand in late August, which rang alarm bells when over 100 PLA soldiers entered and damaged infrastructure, took place after the Indian side had stepped up patrolling in the area and was constructing pedestrian bridges for faster access towards the Tun Jun La pass.
