A major crackdown continued in the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday, with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the armed forces simultaneously carrying out raids and search operations in which NIA arrested nine people for their alleged involvement in militant conspiracies.
The ongoing operation is being conducted ahead of the scheduled visit of Union home minister Amit Shah to the valley, around October 22-23.
Some of the senior officials from the Home Ministry and security establishment from Delhi flew to Kashmir in the past week to analyse the ground situation.
NIA officials have raided around 20 areas in Srinagar, Shopian, and Pulwama districts of the valley in the last two days and during these searches nine people identified as Tariq Ahmad Dar, Bilal Ahmad Mir, Waseem Ahmad Sofi, Tariq Ahmad Bafanda, Haneef Chiralu, Hafeez, Owais Dar, Mateen Bhat, and Arif Farooq were arrested.
