The government-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) announced on Monday that it has secured an order from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd to supply compact heat exchanger sets for the LCA Tejas.
“Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited has received a prestigious order for the supply of compact heat exchanger sets for 83 LCA Tejas MK1A aircrafts, from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL),” BHEL said in a statement.
Manufacturing, assembling, testing, and supplying compact heat exchangers will be part of the order for the light combat aircraft, which is being manufactured by HAL.
In collaboration with the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), Bangalore, BHEL-HPVP has designed and developed 13 different types of compact heat exchangers for LCA Mk-1A program’s Environmental Control System (ECS) and Secondary Power System (SPS).
In addition to developing Air Cycle Machine-based Liquid Cooling Systems (LCS) for aircraft PODs for the LCA MK-2, BHEL has also been working with DRDO on the development of LCS for Aviation applications. Such an initiative is a major push towards the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ campaign.
