Captain R Subramanian took birth on 12th August, 1976 in the locality of Goregaon of Mumbai. His father was Mr. S Ramachandran and mother was Mrs. Subbalakshm. He did his basic education from St.Joseph’s school, Sabarmati near Ahmedabad. Then he joined Vivek Vidyalaya, Goregaon for further education and completed 10th from the same school. He further joined MVLU College, Andheri (East) for the 11th class and completed Intermediate in 1993. Capt had been a good student and Keen learner during studies. He had secured 94% and 96% in his 10th and 12th exams. He appeared for the written exam of NDA and subsequently cleared the written and Services Selection Board both. He joined the 90th course at the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA) in July 1993. He took a bachelor’s degree and passed from the academy in 1996 and completed his tenure of training at IMA, Dehradun in 1997. Later, he was commissioned into the 1st Para on the rank of Second Lieutenant. He got posted at Jorhat (Assam) and after tiring training was commissioned in the No. 1 Parachute Regiment, that is called the Special Forces of Indian army. He got his further training at Military HeadQuarters of War (MHOW) located in Indore and also attained training of Artillery at Belgaum.

Capt Subramanian was a very adventurous chap. He took training for free fall at Agra. He got another posting in the Kargil region. He was there in the Drass Sector , Mushkoh Valley for a long time and faced several challenging operations and made himself the toughest. He was posted for Op Rakshak and then in 2000 he got the rank of Captain.
He joined NCC in school days , this shows his passion for joining the armed forces. Capt was very much interested in sports and indoor games like Football, Chess, Volleyball and was an active participant in school and college level sports competitions .His friends told that he was clear in mind to join the army through NDA. By the history of NDA, he brought excellence in the sports and won many competitions and made his squadron proud. He was a keen reader of books and read a lot about the great men like (Hundred great lives). He was a keen listener of Music and Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh were his favorites. He also had a hobby to sing but only occasionally. He was a man with Fu zeal,zest , passion and an active participation interest.

Op KUPWARA
Capt was leading an operation in the Haphruda forest of the Kupwara district. Meanwhile one evening, they were engaged in an open fire combat from a group of some Terrorists. Capt immediately took the commande, he led his men with shrewd combat skills. After the night full of combat, he hunted almost all militants.
The next morning, the troops went to that area. After the operation, while taking hoodies, 3 hidden Terrorists started firing. Captain commanded everyone to take cover. He himself put himself in danger and went out for the hunt. He soon neutralized 2 of them but subsequently got injuries on his neck and shoulder. He was bleeding profoundly.
Captained saved his men by bravery and skills. A team of army aviation deployed him to a nearby base hospital but the captain didn’t survive. He showed exceptional courage and responsibility for his men. He was awarded the nation’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award “Kirti Chakra”.
He sacrificed his life for his country and men. Even during hard times, he first thought of his country then his men and then about himself.
His father Mr. S Ramachandran, mother Mrs. Subbalakshmi, and younger sister R.Varalakshmi were a proud family member and they were feeling honour of his supreme sacrifice and never defeated passion for nation.
He reaffirmed the Motto of Para SF and remembered till date for his leadership.
Men apart, every man an emperor
Truly he was an emperor of leadership and camaraderie.
