
On Wednesday, the bust of Kargil war hero Captain Vikram Batra was unveiled in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, Army officials said. According to them, the unveiled bust will inspire generations to come in the hometown of the officer.
At Palampur military station, his father G L Batra and mother Kamal Kant Batra unveiled a bust honoring Param Vir Chakra (PVC) Captain Vikram Batra. The ceremony was attended by northern army commander Lt Gen YK Joshi. Lt Gen Joshi was the commanding officer of the 13 JAK Rifles during the Kargil war.
The event was attended by Major Gen MP Singh, GOC Dah Division, Captain Vikram Batra’s school teachers RS Guleria, Suman Maini, and Neelam Vats as well as by some of his childhood friends.
During the Kargil War, Captain Batra, a young and brave officer, who achieved success in capturing Point 5140 with the victory message ‘Yeh Dil Maange More’, caught the attention of the nation and became a symbol of the Indian Army officer spirit, made the ultimate sacrifice but not before capturing Point 4875.
