General Bipin Rawat was the longest-serving four-star General of the Indian Army who had been tasked to revamp the Indian Armed Forces. General Rawat was made a 4-star officer in the year 2016 and since then he had been on a mission to modify the structure of the armed forces most considerably.
General Bipin Rawat supplanted two of his seniors and was picked by the government of India for the role of Chief of Army Staff in 2016. He served as the COAS for three years before being promoted to the newly introduced rank of the Chief of Defence Staff.
He was known for his straightforward and vociferous opinions on many issues such as terrorism supported in Pakistan, the border situation in China, and the internal threats in Jammu and Kashmir.
As the Chief of Defence Staff, he was assigned tasks to bring positive reforms in the senior defence management and warfighting and the primary amendment was the restructuring of the Indian Armed Forces into tri-service military theatres.
General Bipin Rawat belonged to a family with a military background and his father Lieutenant General Lachu Singh Rawat also commanded the 5/11 Gorkha Rifles. General Rawat was a graduate of the National Defence Academy in Pune and Indian Military Academy in Dehradun.
