The government told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the necessary infrastructure according to the female requirement in the National Defence Academy (NDA) including separate accommodation with robust physical separation between the male and female residential areas and bathrooms will get ready only by May 2022, effectively pushing back their entry till May 2022.
Notification for acceptance of females into the armed forces through the NDA will only be issued by that date, an additional affidavit filed by the ministry of defence stated.
In a fresh affidavit submitted to the court, the defence ministry said that it was committed to carrying through the court’s decision by May 2022 because deliberate planning and meticulous preparation are called for smooth and seamless training of such women candidates.
Furthermore, gynecologists, women orderlies, women duty officers, and women instructors will have to be posted at the military hospital in Khadakvasla. To implement such measures, the government said, the defence services had constituted a study group, comprising experts, to formulate a comprehensive curriculum for women cadets at NDA.
