China illegally occupying 38000 sq Km of Indian territory says government

In the Union Territory of Ladakh, China has illegally occupied approximately 38,000 sq Km of Indian territory for the last six decades, the state minister for External Affairs V Muraleedharan told the Lok Sabha on Friday.

Moreover, under the 1963 China-Pakistan Boundary Agreement, Pakistan illegally ceded 5180 sq Km of Indian territory in Shaksgam Valley to China from areas illegally occupied by Pakistan in Union Territory of Ladakh, the minister stated in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha.

“The fact that the entire Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are an integral and inalienable part of India has been clearly conveyed to Pakistani and Chinese authorities several times,” the MoS said.

After the 1962 Indo-China war, both China and Pakistan saw it as an opportunity to strengthen and develop their relations in order to exert strategic pressure on India. Although there is no border between the two countries, an agreement was signed in 1963 between China and Pakistan in the context of the negotiation.
