In China’s latest threats over the issue of Taiwan, the country’s Foreign Minister said the United States will pay a high price for its actions towards the self-governing island.
Tensions between China and the United States soared in recent years over issues including human rights, trade, and technological competition, with Taiwan emerging as a major flashpoint.
The Chinese government has declared Taiwan its territory and has threatened to occupy it one day by force if necessary. The majority of countries recognized Beijing over Taipei on a formally official level; however, the latter has maintained strong unofficial links with China, which Beijing does not tolerate.
