On 6th March 2016, in the B Boiler Room of INS Viraat, the nation’s prestigious aircraft carrier, the material providing heat insulation to water pipes started smouldering. CHME Ashu leads the task of fighting the fire relentlessly for 35 minutes with all other watchkeeper and Standing Sea Fire Party personnel. He also saved the lives of his comrades disregarding his own and sacrificed his life.
The brave warrior CHME Ashu Singh also received the prestigious ‘Shaurya Chakra’ posthumously for displaying outstanding leadership and valiance.
