Coming from Army background, Col. Kanwar Singh was born on 18th July 1961. Being in Army environment, he always wanted to fallow his fathers and join Army. After his graduation, he joined Indian Military Academy and commissioned in Army in 1980 at age of 21 into Dogra Regiment. Serving in different terrain and environment he got large experience under his name. With 20 years of service in his name and leading the various successful operation under his belt, and getting Shaurya Chakra and Sena Medal for his excellent deeds in North-eastern regions during his tenure. Later he assumed the charge of commanding the 6 Dogra Regiment.

After taking command in his hand, he always prepare his soldier and himself for any situation ahead. On August 18th of 2002, during the regular petrol in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district, his troop and himself came across group of armed militants and started the search operation. Taking hides and managing the field crafts activities the started engaging with the militants. During the fire fight, one of his soldiers got injured and in the process of evacuation, Col. Kanwar Singh managed to kill 2 militants. Chasing the militants and in order to eliminate them, in a daredevil action, he got hit in his neck and later succumbed to his injuries. Ensuring all the militants are eliminated, he lost his life.
Colonel Kanwar Jaideep Singh was awarded with Shaurya Chakra for his incredible deeds and leading the men in extraordinary situations and eliminating the militants and thus ensuring the safety of his man and country.
