Defense Minister Rajnath Singh unveiled the revamped Rezang La memorial that commemorates the battle that took place in the Ladakh sector 60 years ago.
The memorial structure has been upgraded which also includes the names of the Galwan martyrs. Rajnath Singh termed the memorial as a symbol of India’s readiness to protect its sovereignty.
“The renovation of the memorial is not only a tribute to our valiant armed forces, but also a symbol of the fact that we are fully prepared to protect the integrity of the nation. This monument symbolises the government’s stand of giving a befitting reply to anyone who threatens our sovereignty and integrity,” Defence Minister said.
Before renovation there was only a single pillar with the names of martyrs of 13 Kumaon Regiment inscribed. The memorial now includes a double-story museum, a mini-theatre to screen a documentary on the battle, and a large helipad.
