Defence ministry seals Rs 1075 crore deal for retro-modification of Commander Sight for T-90 tanks with BEL

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a deal with Bharat Electronics Limited to retrofit the Commander Sight of Battle Tank T-90 to serve the Indian Army. The deal is worth Rs 1075 crore.

“The retro-modification will be carried out in 957 tanks. The total value of the contract is Rs 1075 crore (including all taxes and duties),” an official statement said on Monday.

As a further boost to the Make in India initiative, the successful indigenous development by IRDE, DRDO, and BEL of the Thermal Imager-based Commander Sight with improved performance over its predecessor has restored faith in Indian technology.

“This will provide a fillip to indigenous defence manufacturing and open avenues for export of such advanced technology,” the statement further added.
