India has postponed DefExpo 2022 which was scheduled next week in Gandhinagar. Russia which is waging a war against Ukraine was a major participant in the upcoming event.
The unprecedented decision comes amid severe economic sanctions against Russian entities by NATO members following the invasion of Ukraine.
According to the official statement, DefExpo 2022 has been postponed due to logistical difficulties experienced by participants, but new dates will be announced later. Largest number of foreign exhibitors were expected from the US, Russia, France, and Israel.
It was a major surprise to participants when the decision to interrupt the event with less than a week left was made. They had booked stalls, transported exhibit materials, including models and demonstration tools for weapon systems, and had plans for foreign executives to attend.
Industry people from inside, said that losses for participants would total several millions, given the last-minute decision.
