A joint team of the Indian Army and officials from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) recently visited Gun Carriage Factory (GCF), Jabalpur, in MP to review the integration and production of indigenous Dhanush at GCF with all stakeholders to fix quality and delivery issues after the factory was hit by the deadly second wave of COVID-19 and reopened only in June due to which supply of 6-8 guns was paused.
The first batch of 6 guns supplied in 2019 faced some quality issues due to which second batch production was affected as the Indian Army wanted 4 guns from the second batch rectified before the Army took delivery of the second batch.
Army has placed orders of 118 Dhanush 155×45 mm artillery guns that were supposed to be delivered in 4 years at the rate of 36 guns per annum from the second year but GCF will not be able to meet its targets and 118 guns delivery might run into 6th year since the rate of production of 50 guns per year is simply not possible from 2022.
