The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed an advanced chaff technology, which is used to divert enemy’s radar-guided missiles, to protect Indian Air Force fighter jets.
The IAF has started inducting this technology after the completion of successful trials, a DRDO statement said on Thursday. Two DRDO labs developed the advanced chaff material and chaff cartridge- 118/I and it stands on the standards of the IAF, the statement mentioned.
“The importance of this technology lies in the fact that very less quantity of chaff material deployed in the air acts as a decoy to deflect enemy’s missiles for ensuring the safety of the fighter aircraft,” it further stated.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday appreciated and praised the DRDO, the IAF, and the industry for indigenously developing this technology, describing it as one more step towards ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in the strategic defence technologies, the statement added.
