An unidentified militant was shot dead in an encounter broke out with the security forces in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, J&K police stated.
Acting on specific inputs about the presence of militants in Naina Batpora area of the south Kashmir district, security forces launched a cordon and search operation on the site, a police official said.
The search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon the forces, resulting in retaliation. In the ensuing exchange of fire, one militant was neutralized, as per the official. The identity and group affiliation of the slain ultra were being ascertained; the official added further.
