Three marching contingents of the Indian Army will wear uniforms and carry rifles from previous decades, while one contingent will wear a new combat uniform and carry the latest Tavor rifles at Republic Day Parade as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrating the 75th year of India’s independence.
Each marching contingent at the parade will comprise 96 troops instead of the usual 144 so that Covid guidelines can be followed. The first marching contingent of the Indian Army will consist of troops of the Rajput regiment and they will don the army uniform of the 1950s and will carry .303 rifles.
The second marching contingent will consist of troops of the Assam regiment and they will wear uniform of the 1960s. The troops of JAK Light Infantry will don uniform of the 1970s and will carry 7.62 mm self-loading rifles. The fourth and fifth marching contingents will be of Sikh LI and Army Ordnance Corps Regiment respectively and these soldiers will wear the current army uniform.
The sixth contingent will be of the Parachute regiment and they will don the new uniform that was released earlier this month. Overall, there will be 14 marching contingents.
