As part of the defence ministry’s decision, an experimental scheme to induct female fighter pilots into the Indian Air Force will be converted into a permanent commission. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Tuesday that the decision is a testament to India’s ‘Nari Shakti’ (women power) and the determination of Prime Minister Modi to achieve women’s empowerment.
“The MoD has decided to convert the Experimental Scheme for Induction of Women Fighter Pilots in the Indian Air Force into a permanent scheme. It is a testimony to the capability of India’s ‘Nari Shakti’ and our PM Shri@narendramodi’s commitment towards women empowerment,” Rajnath Singh tweeted.
This came months after the top court of the country paved the way for female applicants to be accepted into the National Defence Academy (NDA), formerly a male-only platform for recruiting into the three services of the armed forces.
