Female officers inducted on board major warships says Navy chief

Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of Naval Staff, announced on Friday that women have been appointed to major warships of the Indian navy.  

Around 28 female officers have been inducted so far in 15 major warships of navy and these numbers will keep on increasing.  

Admiral Hari Kumar told a press conference ahead of the Indian Navy Day that the Indian Navy is completely prepared to deploy women across a wide spectrum of roles and responsibilities. 

“In consonance with the government of India’s objective to empower women, we have taken measures towards providing additional opportunities for women officers in the Navy. Women officers have been appointed on board almost all major warships,” the navy chief said. 

In addition, he said, the National Defence Academy is working out the modalities for downstream training of women.
