First large survey vessel of GRSE-class launched

The Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) launched Sandhayak, the first large survey vessel in the GRSE-class. The launch ceremony was attended by the Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt.

The minister said that the launch will reinforce the initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India. The large vessel has about 80 percent of indigenous material. The ship will be received by the Indian Navy in 2022.

The vessel will be equipped with advanced hydrographic equipment, including autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), 11-meter survey boats and advanced indigenous data acquisition systems, to assist in collecting and analysing oceanographic and geophysical data in the Indian Ocean Area.

GRSE has delivered 788 platforms which include 107 warships, of which 70 were for the Indian Navy, 35 for the Indian Coast Guard, one for the Mauritius government and one for the Seychelles Coast Guard.
