
Five people have been killed and one injured in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Friday in an attack suspected to be carried out by militants belonging to the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA).
A truck full of coal was attacked by militants with weapons late Thursday night in the Diyumbra area in Dima Hasao. Militants fired bullets at the trucks and later set them on fire. The deceased have been identified as Gour Mazumdar, Dilwar Hussain, Azgar Ali, Sikandar Ali, and Dharmendra Kumar Prasad.
“The incident happened around 8:30 pm when trucks were moving with coal and clinker. There was a sudden fire and the drivers and handymen of the truck were killed,” Dima Hasao Superintendent of police Jayant Singh told ET.
Police recovered five charred bodies and have said that a probe into the incident has been started.
Assam’s panchayat and rural development minister Ranjit Kumar Dass said that the state government will ensure that the culprits are brought to book.
