External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe on Monday to attend an important conference on Afghanistan, “Heart of Asia Conference”.
Representatives from around 50 countries and international organisations would discuss building regional consensus around the peace process in war-torn Afghanistan. This is the 9th Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process (HoA-IP) ministerial conference and is a part of the Istanbul Process, which is a regional initiative on security and cooperation for a stable and peaceful Afghanistan.
The external minister met his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif and discussed bilateral cooperation, including the strategic Chabahar port. “Began my Heart of Asia engagements with a meeting with Iranian FM @JZarif. A warm conversation that underlined our convergences. Also discussed our bilateral cooperation, including Chabahar,” Jaishankar tweeted.
He will also meet other leaders of the participating countries as well on the sidelines of the conference. Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi is also attending the conference, however, there is no such information regarding the meeting between the ministers of the two countries.
