In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the German magazine Der Spiegel reported on Friday that Germany plans to provide NATO with soldiers, air defence systems, and warships.
It is possible that Germany will send an infantry company with 150 soldiers and more than a dozen wheeled armoured vehicles in a timely manner, according to a package the military has prepared for Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht, the media outlet reported.
Germany also plans to offer Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems and a corvette and a frigate. The ships would have to be withdrawn from other missions in the Mediterranean. It was reported in Der Spigel that a fleet service boat with sensor technology is already on its way to the Baltic Sea.
The US and other NATO members have already sent military help to Ukraine, but there is no move to send troops to Ukraine for fear of triggering a wider European conflict.
