It was announced on Friday that the government has already granted disability pensions to 59190 members of the armed forces since 2016. Armed Forces personnel invalidated out of service on account of bodily disability sustained during service are eligible for disability pension.
Details provided by Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt in Lok Sabha indicate that 6851 personnel were granted disability pensions in 2016, 10554 in 2017, and 12321 in 2018. A total of 12971 personnel were extended the pension in 2019, 12149 in 2020, 4344 in 2021 so far.
“As per extant policy, service personnel who is invalided out from service on account of disability which is attributable to or aggravated by military service is granted a disability pension,” he said in writing.
In response to a separate question, he said that there is no official evidence that India is one of the top importers of military hardware in the world, since no country publicly discloses information about their imports of military hardware.
