Group Captain Varun Singh, who was rescued after the Mi 17 V5 helicopter crash that killed Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, his wife, and 12 other armed forces personnel on December 8, died today at the hospital during his treatment.
The IAF officer was being treated at the Air Force Command Hospital in Bengaluru where he was shifted from Wellington Military Hospital in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. He was on life support and the Indian Air Force confirmed the news of his demise.
“The IAF is deeply saddened to inform the passing away of braveheart Group Captain Varun Singh, who succumbed this morning to the injuries sustained in the helicopter accident on 08 Dec 2021. IAF offers sincere condolences and stands firmly with the bereaved family,” official handle of the Indian Air Force tweeted.
“Group Captain Varun Singh served the nation with pride, valour, and utmost professionalism. I am extremely anguished by his passing away. His rich service to the nation will never be forgotten. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
