Gunner Satyavir belonged to village Andhop in the Palwal district of Haryana. He joined the Indian Army in 1984 and after completing his training in Hyderabad Gnr Satyavir got posted to 170 Field Regiment of the Regiment of Artillery. In 1987, Gnr Satyavir was sent to Sri Lanka as part of IPKF operations in Operation Pawan.

On 15th December 1987 army launched a cordon and search operation and Gunner Satyavir was part of the team. As the assault team of the army reached the suspected area, they realized that the militants greatly outnumbered them. The militants took advantage of the church located in the area and opened fire at the troops. The militants were hiding in safe places and attacking from vantage points. The troops needed to have an exit route to withdraw and get reinforcements. Gunner Satyavir having assessed the prevailing situation came out and opened a burst of fire at the militants to divert their attention. During this fierce gun battle, Gunner Satyavir got hit by an enemy bullet. However, undeterred, Gunner Satyavir continued firing in an attempt to clear the exit route for his fellow soldiers. He was severely injured and later succumbed to his injuries.
Gunner Satyavir is survived by his wife, Rajwati Devi, and son, Manjeet Kumar.
