State-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Friday said that it has secured an order for producing, assembly, integration, testing, and supply High Speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) System, known as ABHYAS from Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), DRDO.
HAL indicated that upon completion of this initial order it would be identified as Development-and-Production Partner (DcPP) for supply of this target system with a private firm.
According to HAL, ABHYAS has a large requirement from the tri-services, and the Defence Research and Development Organization for evaluating missile programs.
ABHYAS was first successfully flight-tested in May 2019 and subsequent evaluation trials are being conducted by ADE, DRDO. ABHYAS is designed and developed by DRDO’s ADE in Bengaluru. ABHYAS is programmed for fully autonomous flight. The check-out of air vehicle is done using laptop-based Ground Control Station (GCS).
