Havildar Davendra Singh was a native of Uttarakhand. He belonged to the 4 Para (SF) battalion, of the elite Parachute Regiment. During 2020 his unit was deployed in J&K for counter-insurgency operations.

Acting upon the credible information from intelligence about the infiltration attempt by the terrorists in Kupwara district, the security forces launched operation Randori Behak on 1st April 2020. The soldiers deployed in the Karen sector repeatedly picked and lost track of terrorists so it was decided to launch para commandos by air in the suspected area. Havildar Davendra became part of this operation launched by a troop of 4 Para (SF). The terrain and weather of the area were harsh due to snow everywhere. With difficulty, the troop of commandos was able to spot the terrorists. A heavy exchange of fire took place between the two sides. However, Indian soldiers too received injuries with Havildar Davendra and some other soldiers, namely, Subedar Sanjeev Kumar, Paratrooper Bal Krishan, Paratrooper Amit Kumar, and Paratrooper Chhatrapal Singh were martyred.
Havildar Davendra Singh was a gallant soldier to have sacrificed his life for the nation.
