Havildar Naipal Singh was born on 6th January 1954 to Shri Baliram Poswal. He hailed from Phulwari village of Faridabad district in Haryana. Havildar Naipal Singh joined the Army at the age of 18 years and was recruited into 5 Rajput of the famed Rajput Regiment. During 1987, Havildar Naipal Singh’s unit was deployed in Sri Lanka as part of the IPKF operations.

On the 15th November 1987 a company of 5 Rajput was tasked to clear road axis Murakkeddanchenai- Eravur in Sri Lanka as part of the ongoing operations against the LTTE. Havildar Naipal Singh and his comrades came under heavy automatic fire. Havildar Naipal Singh assessed the situation and realized that his fellow soldiers were in vulnerable positions and needed to be protected. Taking charge of the situation, Havildar Naipal Singh broke cover and moved from men to men directing and moving them to positions of advantage. He was hit by a bullet in the right thigh but continued with his daring actions and in the process received two more bullet injuries. He was evacuated from the site but later succumbed to his injuries and was martyred.
Havildar Naipal Singh was awarded ‘Vir Chakra’ for his gallantry and supreme sacrifice.
