Havildar Prabhu Shayu Kirke belonged to Semna village in Bindhani post in Ranchi, Jharkhand. He was recruited into 21 Bihar of the Bihar Regiment, an infantry regiment. In 2017, Havildar Kirke’s unit was deployed in the Batalik sector of Ladakh region.

During the first week of April 2017, a western disturbance over Ladakh and J&K triggered heavy rainfall and snowfall for continuous three days. This caused inundation of rivers in that area. The heavy snowfall triggered multiple avalanches. In one such avalanche on 7th April 2017, the soldiers of 21 Bihar who were manning the forward post got trapped. Out of 21 soldiers 5 were hit badly by the avalanche. The Army conducted rescue operation and managed to rescue two soldiers from 15 feet thick snow. However, Havildar Kirke, Lance Naik Bihari Marandi, and Sepoy Lakra could not be saved.
Havildar Kirke was a committed soldier who laid down his life in the line of duty. He is survived by his wife.
