Amit Shah, the union home minister, on Friday ordered that the security grid in J&K be further strengthened and enhanced in order to ensure that no cross-border infiltration occurs and to eliminate terrorism.
Amit Shah while reviewing the security situation of Jammu and Kashmir during a high-level meeting gave this directive. Lt Governor of the Union Territory Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Army Staff Gen Naravane, and other top leaders of the central and J&K government attended the meeting.
As a result of increased security efforts, fewer terror incidents have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir over recent years, according to Shah. The number of terror activities has declined from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021. Also, the number of security personnel who were martyred in such incidents have reduced from 91 in 2018 to 42 in 2021, an official statement stated.
J&K is presently under the rule of government of India. The erstwhile state was bifurcated into two UTs of J&K and Ladakh after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.
