Security forces of J&K averted a major incident with the prompt detection of an improvised explosive device (IED) in high security region of the Budgam district in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Tuesday.
The region is in proximity to many sensitive defence and civilian establishments and installations, including the Srinagar airport, technical airport, headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry of the Indian Army.
The Indian Army and police jointly carried out a cordon and search operation in the Gogo region on Monday night following information regarding possible insurgent activities there, they said.
As per the officials, the improvised explosive device (IED) was detected during the search operation. A bomb disposal squad was summoned and the device was neutralized.
Meanwhile, a case has been filed under relevant sections of law in this regard and further probe into the matter has been started and further details are awaited.
