Indian and Nepal Army soldiers will participate in the 15th edition of the joint military drill ‘Suryakiran’ starting from September 20. Nepal Army spokesperson Santosh Ballav Poudyal said that the military drill will be conducted in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand.
“Nepali Army personnel participating in the exercise will travel to Pithoragarh in India. The event will take place from September 20 to October 3. As many as 300 Nepali Army personnel will participate along with a similar number of Indian Army personnel,” Poudyal told WION.
He said that Nepal and India alternately host each edition of this annual exercise. “The area of focus in the exercise will be counter insurgency and general warfare technique. The exercise had to be postponed in 2020 due to pandemic,” said Poudyal.
He also told that around eight retired Nepali Army Chiefs have been invited and not everyone has confirmed their participation. The programme will take place in New Delhi in September.
Suryakiran is the biggest cross-country military drill that Nepal participates in, in terms of the number of personnel involved.
