India on Monday successfully conducted testing of a long-range Supersonic Missile Assisted Torpedo (SMART) system. This system is built by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
A release from DRDO said that the missile is aimed at upgrading India’s anti-submarine warfare ability. The launch of SMART was conducted from Balasore, Odisha. This system is being developed for the Indian Navy.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh applauded the teams involved in the entire project and said that the development of this system is an apt example of creating futuristic defence systems in the country.
According to an official statement, the missile system is a next-generation missile-based standoff torpedo delivery system. The missile was successfully demonstrated to have full range capabilities. The system is designed to enhance anti-submarine warfare capability far beyond the range of conventional torpedoes.
