India has offered to host a meet National Security Advisors (NSA) on Afghanistan in Delhi in November and invited NSAs of Russia and Pakistan. Two dates have been proposed for the meeting – November 10 and 11.
Pakistan’s NSA Moeed Yusuf had been invited for the meet. Both Indian NSA Ajit Doval and Pak’s NSA Yusuf were present in Dushanbe for Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) NSA meet, but they did not hold any bilateral meet on the sidelines.
The meet will be part of India’s endeavor to play a key role in Afghanistan’s uncertain future as a key stakeholder. On October 20, India will participate in the Moscow Format of talks on Afghanistan which will bring Indian officials face to face with Taliban leaders for the first time since it formed government in Afghanistan.
In September, India hosted the Russian NSA for the first meet of the bilateral high-level mechanism in Afghanistan. The two sides have decided to step up coordination to counter terror in Afghanistan through improved cooperation between respective security agencies.
