Security leaders from India, Russia, Iran, and five central Asian nations pledged to protect Afghanistan from becoming a safe haven for terrorists and called for the formation of an open, inclusive government in Kabul.
Security officials culminated a security dialogue on Afghanistan under the auspices of India with a statement reaffirming that Afghanistan should not be used as a safe haven for terrorists or for training, planning or financing their activities.
As part of the Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan, participants expressed concern about the deteriorating socioeconomic and humanitarian situation in that country and stressed the need for urgent humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
The central Asian countries that attended the meeting are Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. In their statement, the officials reaffirmed their commitment to making Afghanistan a peaceful, secure, and stable place while underscoring the respect for Afghanistan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, as well as their commitment to non-interference in Afghanistan’s internal matters.
