Indian Army arranged ‘Youm-e-Rasul Mir’ celebrations after three decades in south Kashmir

Almost after a gap of three years ‘Youm-e-Rasul Mir’ was organised to celebrate the works of the 19th -century romantic poet of Kashmir in his hometown Dooru Shahabad. It was an initiative of the Indian Army.

The festival organised by the 19 Rashtriya Rifles with the support of the civil administration saw sparkling performances by popular singers, dancers, and dramatists who highlighted the work of Rasul Mir. An army officer said that the aim of the event is to help youth to connect with their roots, culture, and Kashmiriyat and move forward with their heads held high.

Rasul Mir is popularly known as the “John Keats of Kashmir”. He was a legendary poet of the 19th -century and was also known as “imam-e-Ishqiya Shayari”. It was celebrated earlier but was ceased after the escalation of terrorism.

Popular singers Rehana Akhtar, Showkat Sultanpuri, Moinuddin Shah, and Shazia Bashir left the audience enthralled with their mellifluous voice by singing the famous songs written by the legendary poet and Habba Khatoon, also known as “the nightingale of Kashmir”.
