Indian Army leases UAVs from Israel

The Indian Army has leased four Heron Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) from Israel, likely to be deployed along the 3,488 Km Indo-China border.

Heron UAVs are made by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). These UAVs are expected to be delivered between August and December. The agreement was signed in mid-January using the emergency powers given to the armed forces to speed up purchases. The period of leasing is three years.

Against the backdrop of the current scenario between India and China, the Indian Army will monitor the Line of Actual Control (LAC) from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh. This will be achieved by deploying soldiers and UAVs in sensitive area that are seen as vulnerable to intrusion.
