In response to the killing of several civilians during an anti-insurgency operation in the Mon district of Nagaland, the Indian Army on Sunday ordered a Court of Inquiry, promising to take action based on the findings.
According to a statement from the Nagaland Police, at least 11 civilians were killed by security forces in Kohima, and the police will investigate whether it was a mistaken identity.
“The incident and its aftermath are deeply regretted. The cause of the unfortunate loss of lives is being investigated by a Court of Inquiry at the highest level and appropriate action will be taken as per the course of law,” the Army said.
Official sources stated that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief General MM Naravane have been notified about the incident.
