According to its spokesperson on Wednesday, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is likely to receive 10 advanced light helicopters from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) by May 2022.
Additionally, the ICG is planning to take delivery of an offshore patrol vessel (OPV) in 2021, as well as two pollution control vessels (PCVs) by 2025, according to the spokesperson.
A deal was concluded between the coast guard and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bengaluru, for the procurement of 16 advanced light helicopters (ALH) Mk-III in support of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign. Out of the 16 ALH ordered, 6 have already been inducted into the ICG and the remaining 10 aircraft are likely to be inducted by May 2022.
There are currently 68 aircraft, including Dornier and ALH, in the Indian Coast Guard’s fleet, as well as 158 ships, including OPVs, FPVs, ACVs, and PCVs.
