Indian Navy conducted a high-level meeting with officers from the army and the IAF on creating a Maritime Theatre Command to look for threats from the maritime zone.
The meeting was chaired by Vice Admiral AB Singh was held on Thursday last week to discuss the structure of the proposed command, top government sources told the India Today.
In addition to overseeing the Indian maritime zone from Andaman in the east to Lakshadweep in the west, the proposed command will also maintain strict watch in all of India’s interest areas in the entire Indian Ocean and Pacific region.
In this meeting, the Indian Navy considered possible structures for the Maritime Theatre Command as part of its study and exercise. According to the sources, the IAF and the Indian army were represented by their officials deployed in the southern parts of the country.
A study has been requested from all three forces about the creation of Theatre Commands in their respective domains.
