Indian Navy receives Infrared Suppression Signature System

An infrared suppression signature system (IRSS) powered by a diesel engine was handed over to the Indian Navy by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) on Wednesday.

A prototype of the system was handed over by Dr. Samir V Kamat, Director General (Naval Systems & Materials), to Vice Admiral Sandeep Naithani, Chief of Material, integrated Naval Headquarters, New Delhi.

Dr. Samir said that giving the IRSS systems to Navy is a major milestone in lines with ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ or Self-reliant India in the field of developing and designing of naval stealth systems.

According to Vice Admiral Sandeep Naithani, stealth technology is one of the essential factors in ensuring the survival of naval ships at sea.

According to NSTL Director Dr. Y Sreenivas Rao, the NSTL designed and developed systems were integrated into the INS Vikrant, which is currently under construction at Cochin Shipyard Limited, Kochi, and had completed all performance trials successfully.
