SSS Defence, an Indian weapon company, will start manufacturing and testing small weapons at its new facility. This facility will become operational in January 2022 and it will also have an underground weapon testing tunnel to carry out tests of those weapons, CEO of the company Vivek Krishnan said on Monday.
“This will be our first full-fledged facility where we will carry out integrated research and development, manufacturing and testing of weapons,” he said. In a bid to promote the government’s Make in India campaign, it has been decided that the weapon factory will make SSS Defence the second private sector company in India to manufacture small arms. The company will manufacture weapons for the local and export markets.
The tunnel that is being constructed is 150 meters long and it will be the first underground facility to be set up by a private sector firm in India. Weapons ranging from pistols and assault rifles to carbines to sniper rifles will be tested and evaluated in the testing tunnel.
SSS Defence is also setting up an ammunition manufacturing plant at Anantpur in Andhra Pradesh which will be operational by next year.
